Our bodies have 79 total exons that make up the Dystrophin gene. This gene is how are body recreates new muscle when needed. Because Fritz is missing exons 57, 59, 59 on the dystrophin gene, his body is unable to make new muscle. Duchenne is considered a rare, genetic disease, only occurring in about 1/5000 boys.
